Building Link Popularity

Over the last few days I have doing a search on today’s best techniques for building link popularity. I focused my search on reputable sites that offered free information. There are some definite do’s and don’ts when it comes to this subject. Since Google doesn’t publish their algo techniques some of the information available are just theories at this point.

It is important to know the definite do’s and don’t so that you don’t accidently fall prey to the “black hat SEO” techniques. Many uninformed people are falling for the link popularity techniques that are robbing their pocket books and possibly hurting their website by risking the possibility of beening banned by Google.

Since I did not become a SEO expert in a few days of research I am not going to try and explain all the good and bad linkbuilding techniques, but I will list a few that are most important.

The do’s:

1. Do find websites that are relevant to your site to link to you.

2. Good content is very important. You can get linked with out even trying.

3. Be sure to submit your site Google, MSN and Yahoo. These are the three main search engines and they won’t index you if you don’t submit your site.

The don’ts:

  1. Don’t use “black hat” SEO techniques like blog spamming and forum spamming. Blog and forum spamming includes posting/commenting only for the purpose of adding your link.

  2. Don’t waist your money on paid directories. There are many free directories available and remember your goal should be to get listed on directories that are relevant to your web site.

These are just a few of the important techniques, I encourage you to read 101 ways to Build Link Popularity in 2006, Link Popularity , and Link Building 101 to find more information and building link popularity. Don’t forget to check your link popularity with this free tool.
